  • Chuck's Heating & Cooling
    5
    Vancouver, US

Family owned for over 50 years, Chuck’s Heating & Cooling continues to provide superior and affordable service to residential and commercial customers throughout the Vancouver and Portland Metro areas. Chuck’s Heating and Cooling is a 3rd generation HVAC business. Jim Hurt, my grandfather, started the business in 1965 and named it Jim Hurt Heating. He began the business in Oregon City and primarily worked on oil and gas furnaces. His sons, Steve, Chuck and Tom were still in school but would work summers and were soon in the business themselves. In 1980, Chuck and Tom bought out their dad and changed the name to Hurt Bros Heating and Cooling. They had expanded the business to include refrigeration (Heat Pumps & Air Conditioning) and custom-built duct systems. In 1983, Tom decided to go into ministry and went to seminary. Chuck continued the business and excelled greatly at it, growing the services offered and its reputation. During this time, his older brother Steve, and brother-in-law, Steve Brogden, were also involved in the family business. Due to some severe health issues, it was decided the business would be sold and Chuck would work for the purchaser, figuring that being an employee would be less stressful. We observe the best practices and standards in our industry. Although we’ve been around for generations, we continue to learn the latest leading edge technologies. Our professional team of skilled journeyman take pride in offering exceptional HVAC service, installation, and maintenance to ensure that your heating and cooling needs are handled right the first time. We understand that finding the right HVAC contractor can often be challenging or even stressful in times of our extreme winters and summers here in the Pacific Northwest. We want you to feel confident that Chuck’s Heating & Cooling is not only licensed, bonded, and insured, but has built its reputation on honesty, integrity, and reliability. Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC Companies

Find answers to common questions about HVAC services, finding contractors, and getting the best heating and cooling solutions for your needs.

What is a ductless mini-split system?

A ductless mini-split system is a type of HVAC system that doesn't require ductwork. It consists of an outdoor unit (compressor/condenser) and one or more indoor units (air handlers) connected by refrigerant lines and electrical wiring. Each indoor unit cools or heats a specific zone or room, providing individual temperature control. Ductless mini-splits are more energy-efficient than traditional ducted systems and are a good option for homes without existing ductwork.

What are the signs my air conditioner needs refrigerant?

Low refrigerant levels can cause various problems with your air conditioner:
  • Warm Air: The most noticeable sign is that the AC is blowing warm or lukewarm air.
  • Ice Buildup: Ice may form on the AC unit.
  • Increased Energy Bills: Your system has to work harder to cool, leading to higher energy consumption.
  • Hissing or Bubbling Sounds: These sounds can indicate a refrigerant leak.
If you suspect low refrigerant, contact an HVAC technician to fix the leak and add refrigerant.

What regular maintenance should I do on my HVAC system?

You can perform some simple maintenance tasks yourself to keep your HVAC system running smoothly:
  • Change Air Filters: Change or clean your air filters every 1-3 months. Dirty air filters restrict airflow and decrease system efficiency.
  • Clear Debris: Ensure there are no obstructions near the vents inside your home.
  • Check Thermostat Settings: Make sure your thermostat is set to the desired temperature and is functioning correctly.
For more complex maintenance, like cleaning coils or checking refrigerant levels, contact a qualified HVAC technician. Schedule annual or biannual maintenance with a reputable HVAC contractor.

How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

Regular HVAC maintenance is essential for optimal performance, energy efficiency, and extending the lifespan of your system. It's generally recommended to have your system serviced once in the spring and once in the fall. Regular maintenance typically includes cleaning, inspections, and tune-ups of key components.
