  • Deweerd Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc.
    4.7
    212 W. Superior St., Wayland, 49348, US

Hugh DeWeerd bought the Plumbing and Heating business in 1955 from Cliff Averill. The business was home-based, and Hugh's wife, Dorothy, was the secretary and bookkeeper. Hugh started by using his personal garage as a parts warehouse and working out of his ford pick-up truck. He made all of his duct work in his sheet metal shop, which was in the basement of his home. In 1962, Hugh joined the Wayland Fire Department, and in 1965, he became Wayland's Fire Chief, from which he retired in 2002 after 40 years of service. In 1975, Hugh and Dorothy DeWeerd purchased the Congregational Church at 212 W. Superior. They originally purchased the church to use as a storage building, but they moved the sheet metal operation into the basement of the church shortly after. In 1981, their son Ron DeWeerd started working full time, and in 1994, he purchased the family business from his parents. In 2000, Ron DeWeerd determined the church was unsafe and had it demolished. In November of 2005, DeWeerd Heating & Air Conditioning began the process of building their new showroom and office. The expansion was completed in September of 2006. DeWeerd Heating and Air Conditioning has been and continues to be a family-owned and operated business, with Ron DeWeerd as owner and CEO, his wife, Nancy DeWeerd, as secretary, and his two sons, Joel Baugh and Jared DeWeerd as employees. At DeWeerd Heating and Air Conditioning, it is our belief that "there is no substitute for quality," and we incorporate this not only into our business, but also into our daily lives.

  • Roman Air Heating, Cooling & Plumbing
    4.4
    1000 S Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, 49001, US

At Roman Air HCP, our top priority is the health and safety of you and your loved ones. We take great pride in providing indoor air quality products that are energy efficient, environmentally friendly—and extremely effective when it comes to improving your indoor air quality. The spread of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) has all of us greatly concerned in Michigan. We want a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system that is designed to know how to maintain fresh indoor air quality. Indoor air quality equipment can be designed to restore humidity levels, remove stale air—and kills bacteria. In many cases, this equipment is integrated with your existing ductwork and HVAC equipment, which is why you want one of our certified and insured professionals at Roman Air to do the work. Remember, these systems maintain a healthy air quality but do not prevent anyone from getting infected. Coronavirus can survive many days on a surface, such as a door handle. Good hygiene also plays a critical role in your health. Because COVID-19 is spread through respiratory outlets, WHO officials recommend: Wash your hands frequently Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth until you wash your hands Wipe off door handles and light switches (especially if they are frequently used) Maintain a distance of at least three feet from anyone coughing or sneezing Stay home if you feel unwell At Roman Air, we treat all of our clients with professionalism and provide the best furnace repair, and heating & cooling services in the area. With over 18-years of prime experience, we focus on customer satisfaction and pay close attention to changing technologies. We offer our customers in West Michigan (and the surrounding areas) an experience rather than just a heating or A/C repair transaction. In this business you need someone that you can count on through the years, so call us today for all of your heating, cooling, venting, plumbing, and mechanical needs. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for great deals! Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC Companies

Find answers to common questions about HVAC services, finding contractors, and getting the best HVAC systems for your needs.

How do I choose the right size AC unit for my home?

Choosing the right AC unit size is essential for efficient cooling. An undersized unit won’t cool your home adequately, while an oversized unit will cycle on and off frequently, wasting energy and leading to premature wear and tear. A qualified HVAC technician will calculate the appropriate size AC unit for your home based on factors like:
  • Your home's square footage
  • Your local climate
  • Insulation levels
  • Window efficiency
  • Number of occupants
This calculation involves determining your home's cooling load, typically measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units). Don’t rely on estimates or guesswork; consult with an HVAC professional to ensure your new AC unit is properly sized for your specific needs.

How do I choose the right HVAC contractor?

Selecting a qualified HVAC contractor is essential for a smooth and hassle-free HVAC project. Here’s what to look for:
  • Experience: Choose a contractor with extensive experience in the HVAC industry, especially in the type of service you need.
  • Licensing and Insurance: Verify that the contractor is properly licensed and insured.
  • Certifications: Look for NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification, which indicates a high level of technical competency.
  • Reputation: Check online reviews and ratings to assess the contractor's reputation and customer satisfaction levels.
  • References: Ask for references from past customers and contact them to inquire about their experience.
  • Estimates and Quotes: Get written estimates or quotes from multiple contractors to compare pricing and services.
  • Warranty Information: Ask about warranties on equipment and labor.
  • Communication: Effective communication is key. Choose a contractor who responds promptly and clearly answers your questions.
HVACCompaniesHub can help connect you with qualified HVAC contractors in your area.

What should I look for when hiring an AC installer?

When hiring an AC installer, consider these key factors:
  • Experience and Expertise: Look for installers with experience and a good understanding of AC systems.
  • Licensing and Insurance: Make sure the installer is licensed and insured to work in your area.
  • Reputation and Reviews: Check online reviews and ratings from other customers.
  • Detailed Quotes: Get itemized quotes outlining all costs associated with the installation.
  • Warranties: Inquire about warranties on equipment and labor.
  • References: Ask for and check references from past customers.
  • Communication: Choose an installer who communicates clearly and promptly.
By carefully evaluating these aspects, you can choose a qualified and trustworthy professional for your AC installation.

What are the different types of HVAC systems?

Several types of HVAC systems are available for residential and commercial buildings:
  • Split Systems: The most common type, consisting of an outdoor unit (condenser/compressor) and an indoor unit (air handler/furnace).
  • Heat Pumps: Provide both heating and cooling by transferring heat between indoor and outdoor air.
  • Ductless Mini-Splits: Ideal for homes without existing ductwork or for adding heating and cooling to specific zones.
  • Packaged Units: A single unit that contains all the system's components.
  • Geothermal Heat Pumps: Use the earth's stable temperature to provide highly efficient heating and cooling.
An HVAC professional can help determine the best type of system for your needs and budget.
