  • Reed Wright Heating & Electric
    4.8
2212 B Queen Anne ave. North, Seattle, 98109, US

Welcome to Reed Wright Heating's web site. Reed Wright heaiting company started on Queen Anne hill in 1938 delivering coal and sawdust for heating homes around Seattle. Reed Wright and his brother operated the company to start with. The company transitioned from coal and sawdust to oil then to gas heat in the 50s. The company also started an electrical division back in the late 50s or early 60s. As electrical contractors the company also did some of the Seattle center wiring for the worlds fair. The company slowly backed off of electrical and focused on heating and air conditioning. Today the company installs and services boilers (hot water and steam heat) and forced air heating and cooling systems. We work on all sizes and types of houses to some of the largest homes in Seattle. A large part of our work is also on apartment and commercial buildings in Seattle. A specialty of ours is pre 1940s buildings and homes although we work on all ages and types of structures. Tim Smith and Bryan Wilson took over the company in 1986 after working for Mr Wright for several years. Today they still own and operate the business and the company has grown several times over but we are still a small company on Queen Anne with a customer service minded staff. We hope you will contact us for your heating or cooling needs. Thank you for visiting.

Frequently Asked Questions About HVAC Companies

Find answers to common questions about HVAC services, finding contractors, and getting the best heating and cooling solutions for your needs.

How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

Regular HVAC maintenance is essential for optimal performance, energy efficiency, and extending the lifespan of your system. It's generally recommended to have your system serviced once in the spring and once in the fall. Regular maintenance typically includes cleaning, inspections, and tune-ups of key components.

What is the difference between an AC unit and a heat pump?

While both air conditioners and heat pumps provide cooling, they differ in how they generate heat. An AC unit cools your home by extracting heat and transferring it outside. It uses a separate furnace or heating system for heating in colder months. A heat pump, however, can both cool and heat. In cooling mode, it functions like an AC, extracting heat from indoor air and releasing it outdoors. In heating mode, it reverses this process, extracting heat from the outside air (even in cold temperatures) and transferring it inside. This makes heat pumps more energy-efficient for heating than traditional electric resistance heating, especially in mild to moderately cold climates.

What are the signs my air conditioner needs refrigerant?

Low refrigerant levels can cause various problems with your air conditioner:
  • Warm Air: The most noticeable sign is that the AC is blowing warm or not cool air.
  • Ice Buildup: Ice may form on the refrigerant lines or evaporator coil.
  • Increased Energy Bills: Your system has to work harder to cool, leading to higher energy consumption.
  • Hissing or Bubbling Sounds: These sounds can indicate a refrigerant leak.
If you suspect low refrigerant, contact an HVAC technician to diagnose the issue and recharge the system.

What should I ask an HVAC technician during a service call?

When an HVAC technician comes for a service visit, ask these important questions:
  • What is the source of the problem? Get a clear explanation of the issue and what caused it.
  • What are my repair options? Discuss different repair solutions, if applicable, and their associated costs.
  • Are there any preventative measures I can take? Find out if there are steps you can take to prevent future problems.
  • Do you recommend a repair or replacement? If repairs are extensive or the system is old, consider replacement.
  • What are the warranties on parts and labor? Understand the warranties before agreeing to any repairs.
  • Do you have any customer reviews or testimonials I can check? Reputable HVAC technicians are often happy to provide references or direct you to customer reviews.
Asking these questions can help you make an informed decision and feel confident in the HVAC technician's expertise and recommendations.
